“Defensive Unit Training”
Defensive Unit training is another extremely valuable type of training where the keeper, plus their defenders(and when posssible, attacking players as well) will work together for an hour and a half on all types of game like situations.
Defending crosses, one v one’s, free-kicks/setting up walls, back passes, distribution, corner kicks, holding the line or dropping off, defensive shape and organization.
All of these topics will be worked on. This is an area that often gets neglected or overlooked with team training, and yet, this is where most mistakes are made.
When do I come out for a one v one? What do I say to my defenders? How many people do I set up in the wall? How can I organize my defenders to stop the danger before it happens and not after? What do I and my defenders do on back-passes? I’m always told “I need to be more aggressive, and control my box better”, how do I do this?
All of these questions will be answered in “Defensive Unit Training.”
